As the depository and the custodian of the country’s material testimony, the museum’s 18 exhibition halls recreate the entire history of the country, with its native cultures, discovery, conquest, colony, independence, and subsequent republican life in a collection of 1,600 items (furniture, suits, paintings, photographs, weapons, and archeological artifacts), in addition to numerous models and recreations. Here remains of the first pre-Columbian cultures can be found, in addition to the famous posters and publicity that the Popular Unity used in the 1969 presidential campaign.
