A huge volcanic massif with four peaks that reach over 6,000 meters high is the backdrop for this national park.  Its Sur peak (internationally known) is the seventh tallest among all of the Andes mountains.  It has hiking trails with access to the Maricunga salt lakes and lagoons inhabited by birds, such as the tagua, ducks and parinas, and mammals such as vicuñas and guanacos.
