Pucará of Quitor

This is an ancient stone fortress from the 12th c. that predates the arrival of both the Spaniards and the Incas.  It is situated on the Quitor Hill, only 3 km away from the San Pedro de Atacama.  Visitors typically arrive at the site by foot or bike.  It is also located near the San Pedro River, a remarkably feature for an extremely arid environment.
