From the Cordillera to the Sea – Route to Atacama

This Route starts and ends in the city of Copiapó. It is one of the best routes northern Chile has to offer, a unique opportunity to retrace the steps and contributions of the explorers and miners of these expanses of Atacama’s uninhabited coastline and mountain ranges.

Main Attractions: This Route starts and ends in the city of Copiapó. It is one of the best routes northern Chile has to offer, a unique opportunity to retrace the steps and contributions of the explorers and miners of these expanses of Atacama’s uninhabited coastline and mountain ranges.

The route is made up of interconnected loops that combine the landscapes of the eternal salt flats on the high plateaus, such as Pedernales and  Maricunga, with the innumerable beaches of the Atacama coastline. Along this route you will observe the geological wealth of the Andean ranges and the history of the men who, since pre-Hispanic times, have strived to gain dominion over its farthest reaches. Another significant feature that indicates this route’s heritage value is the Spherical Granite sanctuary. Spherical granite is a mineral of high geological value found only in Chile, Australia and Japan.
