Main Attractions:  This route takes you on a tour of coastal cities rich in the history of the encounter between two worlds – the Spanish and the Mapuche – during different historical periods of conquest, colonization, independence and founding of the Republic. In many of these cities, such as in Lota and Coronel, the vestiges also remain of their past of intensive coal mine production, the industry that sustained a major part of Chile’s economy up until the first half of the 20th century. Along this route, see the outstanding natural attractions of beaches, caves, wetlands, Nahuelbuta National Park, Laka Lanalhue, and the valleys of Elicura and Contulmo, where traces may still be found of the indigenous culture of the Mapuches and the world of the German immigrants.
