The Chilean ship Atmosphere,
property of the Nomads
of the Seas tourism company, was chosen as the best vessel in the world for exploring the
sea by the specialized magazine SuperYacht World, the most respected publication in the industry of
super yachts.
“Atmosphere is more than a yacht: it
is the perfect escape for the 21st century adventurer,” the publication highlights
about the ship. Built in the southern city of Valdivia in 2006, the craft
stands out for its landing pad for two
helicopters, which allows the crew to traverse the Patagonian landscapes by
air, sea and land.
Despite its scant three years in operation, the yacht has a crew
comprised of 36 highly skilled sailors,
who were trained by international professionals of the highest level for two
years.
After this exhaustive preparation the ship arrived in the fjords of
Patagoinia, where its crewmembers engaged in the first heliski (skiing from a helicopter) experience in the area,
an event that was attended by the Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit, current world champion in the specialty.
Victor Espinoza, the ship’s captain, highlights that the adventure proved that super
yacht exploration includes everything. “We
were able to fly the helicopters, sail the ocean and tour Patagonia, with
vehicles stationed at strategic points along the coast. We flew and heliskiied
in virgin snow,” he highlighted.
The crew of the ship, considered
the mother of “the most exclusive tourist expedition in Patagonia” that is
preparing to begin its fourth year of existence, appreciated the
acknowledgement from SuperYacht World. “We did not expect it,” says Marcelo Rotella, project development
and operations manager of Nomads of the Seas. “The thing is that we competed
with very experienced ships with significant international recognition. That
made us even happier.”
The
Atmosphere is 20 meters long and can reach a maximum speed of 15 knots. It also
has the capacity to receive 28 guests.
