El Colorado
officially opened its 2010 ski season. With
a view to surprising its visitors, the winter sports center will present a
series of new features that will not only delight ski buffs but everyone who
enjoys experiencing the snow.
One of these is the expansion and improvement of the ski slopes with a new run
adjoining the La Copa
lift, installed in 2009, which will extend by 1 km the length of the groomed
ski slopes of the ski center.
Another improvement will be the expansion of other runs that were smoothed over
during the summer months, in addition to an investment in two Prinoth snow
groomers that will help to extend the skiable areas of the valleys.
But there’s more. Work is already under way to install a new ski lift that will
soon make it possible to provide full access to the mythical “Valle Olímpico”
valley located in the middle of the Farellones, El Colorado and La Parva ski centers.
For the convenience of visitors and with
the idea of allowing families to enjoy more days in the snow, El Colorado has
inaugurated this season a new lodging area in order to cater to the high demand of tourists coming mainly
from Brazil and Argentina, among other countries.
Farellones makes ready
Another of the main skiing centers in Chile, Farellones, is fine-tuning the last details to open its 2010
season.
Like El Colorado, this year it will receive its visitors with some new features.
Apart from the Tubing park, a new ski-lift, “Los Corrales”, has been installed
that will extend the skiing area by 1 km. In addition, the Farellones Snowpark
was expanded and now has a greater number of modules for practicing freestyle
activities.
For the younger enthusiasts there will be
ski schools mixing sport with entertainment areas equipped with teaching toys,
specially designed for them to enjoy themselves.
Lastly, and to attract non-skiers to visit the mountains and snow, Air Games have been set up at an
elevation of over 2600 meters, consisting of a series of suspension bridges and
canopy cables that extend over lengths of 170 to 300 meters. They were
inaugurated this summer in the Parque de Montaña and are one of the fun
activities preferred by all visitors.
In terms of lodging capacity to cater to the visitors, who last year exceeded 500,000
at the different winter sports centers of the country, numerous alternatives
are available, such as Los Ciervos, Powder Lodge, Camino La Capilla, Lodge Mirador and
Hotel La Cornisa.
