The Universidad Diego Portales was founded on 4 October1982, and it seeks to produce and certify professionals of the highest standards of quality, high performance communities closely linked to their environment, and ensure full respect for pluralism and critical independence of its members. Its quality was recognized by the institutional accreditation awarded by the National Commission of Accreditation (CNA), that extends until October 2013, in the areas of institutional management, undergraduate quality and relation with the environment. The latter is assured thanks to its wide-ranging contribution to de debate and research on topics of public policy and national interest.
The UDP has over 30 undergraduate and graduate programs and around 13,000 students, in addition to several research centers such as the Expansiva-UDP Public Policies Institute; the Center for Compared Education Policies headed by Professor José Joaquín Brunner, education expert, the Center for Energy and Sustainable Development, Human Rights Center, the Institute for Research in Social Sciences (ICSO), and Asia Pacific Center, among others. Some of its most important careers are: Law, Journalism, Architecture and Design, Communication and Literature, Economics and Enterprise, Engineering, Social Sciences and History, Medicine and Psychology.
