The Universidad de Santiago is one of the country’s higher education institutions with more longstanding history and relevance. Its story represents a process of changes and constant transformation, which originates in the School of Arts and Trades, a technical school of great prestige, which extended to the rest of the country.
It continued as a scientific-technological university, the Universidad Técnica del Estado, which assumed the task of training professionals for national industrialization, and culminated in a university like the present one of academic excellence, a leader in management and technological innovation and knowledge, sustained in sciences and humanities, with national impact, international recognition and social responsibility. The Usach concentrates its teaching, research and outreach work on a single 34-heactare campus, where students from various disciplines have the opportunity to interact.
The Usach has seven faculties covering the main activities of knowledge: Engineering, Humanities, Science, Management and Economics, Chemistry and Biology, Medical Science and Technology, and a School of Architecture and the Bachelor’s Program. These units offer 63 undergraduate careers and are home to more than 20,000 students. Research and academic excellence groups allow the Usach to offer high quality in various disciplines graduate programs. Graduate offering consists of 39 Master’s and 11 doctoral programs accredited in their great majority.
