Chilean ski resort makes New York Post summer holiday list

One of Chile's most popular ski resorts has made the New York Post list of the top eight attractions for the northern hemisphere's summer vacations.

Valle Nevado was the only location in South America to make the prestigious list, reinforcing Chile's position as a leading tourism destination in the region.

Chile's highest ski resort, Valle Nevado is situated at over 12,000 ft (3,760 m) above sea level and is located only 29 miles (46 km) from the country's capital city, Santiago.

Away from the slopes, the resort is known for its vibrant après-ski scene with an impressive collection of bars, pubs, restaurants and specialist stores.

The New York Post article highlighted the Chilean holiday destination as one of South America's best, praising Valle Nevado for its proximity to Santiago, the high quality of its snowfall and its top class culinary offerings, making special mention of its Pisco Sour.

Other tourist locations listed by the U.S. paper included the Victoria Falls on the Zambeze river in southern Africa, the Adirondack Mountains in the northeast of New York state, the Riviera Maya in Mexico and San Diego's Orlando beaches

Valle Nevado is currently working on a long term project aimed at transforming itself into the region's number one ski resort and a year-round destination.

The plan involves an extension of the resort's slopes and an extensive accommodation upgrade.
