Chilean music fans are preparing for a sensational summer as an armada of international stars, ranging from MGMT to Michael Bublé, are set to make 2012 one of the country’s most musically memorable years ever. Here’s a list of some of the highlights:

Summer festivals

The summer line-up will be dominated by three major festivals, each held in different cities across the country.

In Santiago the Lollapalooza festival will come to the capital for the second time, after the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural event.

Scheduled for the last day of March and the first of April in Parque O’Higgins, the festival will include the likes of the Foo Fighters - fresh from wowing crowds at the Chicago leg of the event - Britpop darlings Arctic Monkeys, eclectic Swedish songstress Björk and Californian psychedelic pop duo MGMT.

Meanwhile, this year’s incarnation of the popular Viña del Mar International Song Festival will bring a more Latin flavor to summer’s offerings, featuring New York-born Puerto Rican singer Marc Anthony and Argentina’s tropical outfits Ráfaga and Garras de Amor. The six-day festival begins on February 22.

Teen U.S. singer and actor Demi Lovato will headline at the Festival of Iquique on February 4. Colombian pop and rock sensation Juanes, chosen by Billboard as the Latin artist of the decade in 2009, will also perform at the festival, to be held at the northern beach city.

Individual artists

Selena Gomez: Another U.S. teen music star, Selena Gomez, will make a Chilean appearance after her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, sent his fans into a frenzy in October last year. Gomez will perform on January 30 in Santiago’s Movistar Arena.

Michael Bublé: Less than a week of after announcing his debut arrival in Chile, the Canadian jazz and swing singer had already sold over 20,000 tickets for his two concerts, leaving only a few in the most expensive sectors still available. Bublé will perform on March 17 and 18 at the Movistar Arena.

Bruno Mars: The U.S. singer who made his name co-writing and producing hits like “Right Round” by Flo Rida, will bring his first solo tour to Chile, following the release of his debut Album “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” which featured the songs “Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are.” Bruno Mars will play on January 19 at the Movistar Arena.
