It’s time for music fans in Santiago to put away those winter coats and prepare to rock out: bands from across the globe are flocking to Chile’s capital city this spring and summer for three jam-packed music festivals.

Santiago is gaining a reputation as a hot destination for top musicians, thanks in part to the city’s selection as host of the first Lollapalooza festival outside of the United States. These three festivals will give you the opportunity to see not only top bands from around the world, but also a great selection of local Chilean artists.

Festival Despierta - Saturday, September 8, 6:00 p.m.

The first-annual Festival Despierta was launched as an independent music and arts event, aiming to contribute to a “change of consciousness,” according to the festival’s website. Festival Despierta features seven hours of music from around the world, plus visual artists and art installations.

Performers from across Latin America and Spain include Jorge Drexler, Kevin Johansen, Pedro Aznar, Chambao, León Gieco, Paulinho Moska, Toto La Momposina, and Lisandro Aristimuño. Gepe, Nano Stern, and Fernando Milagros - all from Chile - will also perform.
