Live outside of Chile but love Kross beer, one of Chile’s most popular microbrews?
You’re in luck: the company has recently announced plans to launch sales abroad for the first time.
According to Kross CEO José Tomás Infante, the brewery is currently expanding the size of its production facility to keep up with demand for its popular product. The plant currently produces about 2 million liters of beer per year, but plans are underway to expand to 3 million liters within the next year.
According to Infante, the brewery is set to add 1,600 square feet (150 square meters) to its brewery, creating space for four new production tanks.
"This gives us an expansion of about 80,000 more liters per month, which translates to nearly a million more a year," Infante told Emol.
With this increase, Infante told The Santiago Times, Kross wants to start selling its product outside of Chile - especially in countries with a strong craft beer culture like Canada and parts of Europe.
“Right now, we are focusing on expanding into Brazil,” Infante told The Santiago Times. “But we are looking at many other places, including North America and Europe.”
The company also hopes to begin producing more seasonal beers, in addition to expanding sales abroad.
About Kross Cerveceria
Infante, an engineer by training, founded Kross beer in 2003 after a craft beer-filled trip to Ireland.
One of Chile’s first microbrews, Kross is now a popular - and profitable - staple of the Andean nation offering five distinct styles of beer. Chilean winery Concha y Toro, the largest wine producer in South America, purchased a 40% stake in Kross in 2011.
You can check out the Kross brewery for yourself at their production plant, located about an hour drive west of Santiago near the town of Curacaví (6.5 km up Camino El Toro). The brewery offers a sales room and tasting room that overlook the production facility, which is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Guided tours can be also arranged for groups of 10-15 people by emailing email@example.com.
