This lagoon is an icy Patagonian pond, and a snowdrift, famous among its international tourists for its chunks of ice that break off and splash into its waters. Both the lagoon and glacier are recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. The park has 5,000 millimeters of annual rainfall and altitudes higher than 4000 meters, including Mount San Valentín.
