Santiago’s international airport is considered one of the best in Latin America, according to this year’s annual study released by British consultancy firm Skytrax Research.

The Chilean transport hub came second only to the Jorge Chávez airport in Lima, Peru, and was followed by Argentina’s Ezeiza Airport in Buenos Aires.

Almost 10 million passengers from 100 countries voted in the survey and analysed 210 airports from all over the world.

They considered factors such as access to the airport, passenger transport, signage, baggage handling, security controls, the quality and friendliness of airport staff, ease of making connections and the variety of products and services on offer, among others.

The aspects which most distinguished Chile’s Arturo Merino Benítez Airport, located 15 kilometers to the west of central Santiago, were its ambience and comfort, the customs service and baggage handling, its ease of access and its parking facilities.

Other surveys have ranked the Chilean terminal even higher: according to the annual review from Latin Trade Magazine, based on the opinions of its readers, Santiago Airport is ranked first in South America, with a ranking of 4.3 out of a maximum of 5.

In Skytrax’s overall World Airport Awards, Singapore’s airport was recognised as the best in the world, followed by the Incheon Airport in South Korea and then Hong Kong International Airport.
