Central Andes – Olivares River – Gran Salto

Located in a mountain ecosystem, this is the only heritage route located in the Central Andes only 86 km northeast of Santiago, following the course of the Colorado River to Alfalfal, deep inside the Cajón del Maipo. This is a path that restores old trails used by pre-Hispanic peoples for the collection of raw materials and to hunt camelids and other species of mega fauna.

Location: Cajón del Maipo, Metropolitan Region.

Distance: 54 km. (round trip).

Travel time: 4 days.

Travel Mode: Hiking and horseback.

Main attractions: Located in a mountain ecosystem, this is the only heritage route located in the Central Andes only 86 km northeast of Santiago, following the course of the Colorado River to Alfalfal, deep inside the Cajón del Maipo. This is a path that restores old trails used by pre-Hispanic peoples for the collection of raw materials and to hunt camelids and other species of mega fauna, with sites of historic and geological interest along it. Condor sightings are among the main natural attractions on this route, given the abundant number of them.  Access to the route, controlled by Gener SA, is with prior authorization required from the Ministry of National Assets.
