Chilean serial innovator among Top 50 Entrepreneurs

Juan Pablo Cappello, co-founder of Latin American crowdfunding website Idea.me, was honored by U.S.-based business magazine.

Chile’s push to become the Silicon Valley of Latin America is being helped along by talented Chilean professionals excelling abroad.
Juan Pablo Cappello is the latest Chilean to be recognized for excellence in business in a foreign country, being named a “Top 50 Entrepreneur” by Business Leader Magazine, a leading U.S. publication.
Aside from his role as Corporate & Securities shareholder in the Miami office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, Cappello is a serial entrepreneur, best known for co-founding Idea.me, a leading crowdfunding website that helps aspiring entrepreneurs in Latin America fund their dream projects.
“It is an honor to be selected for this prestigious award and listed among such a well-accomplished list of professionals,” Cappello said.
“Working at a law firm with a history rooted in the entrepreneurial efforts of its founding partners, it is a fantastic feeling knowing that through this accomplishment I am not only paying tribute to this tradition of entrepreneurship, but am also contributing to keeping the spirit of innovation alive.”
Cappello’s resume is, to say the least, impressive, and he has a broad range of experience in capital markets, cross-border corporate finance, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital.
He co-founded Sauber Energy, a Chilean green energy company that is helping to resolve problems in the electrical grid. Cappello has also served as the general counsel and director of Patagon.com, which was sold to Banco Santander for over US$750 million.
The serial entrepreneur is also engaged in the business community, sitting on the Global Advisory Board of Endeavor Global, a leading NGO promoting entrepreneurship, and on the Legal Advisory Board of the Latin American Venture Capital Association, the Advisory Board of the Pino Entrepreneurship Center at Florida International University and of the Institute of Global International Effectiveness at the Kelly School of Management at Indiana University.
An awards reception was held for the Top 50 Entrepreneurs in February, while the special edition of the magazine, that profiles the entrepreneurs, is to be published later this month.
