Lollapalooza, the biggest international music festival to ever hit Chile, will fill Santiago with music well beyond its two scheduled dates. The main event will go down from noon to 11pm on Saturday and Sunday, April 2 and 3, but for the days surrounding the two larger concerts in Parque O’Higgins, clubs and performance spaces around the city will host performances by musicians both from within Chile and outside.
Thursday, March 31: The Killers, the headlining band for Lollapalooza’s first night, will offer a solo concert at the Cúpula Parque O’Higgins two nights before their festival performance. Tickets will cost US$66 (CP$33,000).
Friday, April 1: Lotus Productions, the team of young producers behind Lollapalooza, will be throwing two pre-parties for the festival. At the peak of Cerro San Cristóbal, the former bassist of Argentine band Soda Stereo, Zeto Bosio, will headline a DJ set beginning at 11pm.
Across the river, Eric Bobo of California hip-hop group Cypress Hill – another band in town for Lollapalooza – will share a DJ set with Chilean Latin Bitman at Club Subterráneo, also beginning at 11pm. General entrance for both parties will be about US$10 (CP$5,000), with VIP For the former costing US$16 (CP$8,000).
Fonda Permanente’s giant warehouse space, Industria Cultural, will host a massive night of música chilena, with cumbias and cuecas from Los Vikings 5, Antonio Rios, Combo Ginebra and Daniel Muñoz y 3×721. Tickest will cost US$6 (CP$3,000) presale, and US$10 (CP$5,000) at the door.
Chilean rockers Los Bunkers, also scheduled for Lollapalooza, will give a solo concert at the ex Discoteque Oz, with general admission at US$14 (CP$7,000) pre-sale, or US$10 (CP$10,000) at the door.
Saturday, April 2: The first day of Lollapalooza will be followed by an afterparty at Providencia bar Alto Barcelona, headlined by Brazilian band Cansei De Ser Sexi beginning at 11pm. Tickets will cost US$10 (CP$5,000) for general admission, and US$20 (CP$10,000) for VIP.
Club Subterráneo will host another of the weekend’s with Colombian hip-hop and cumbia duo Bomba Stéreo headlining. The concert, with general admission tickets for US$10 (CP$5,000), will be begin at 11pm.
