Chile kicks off Latin American Poker Tour

Long white sand beaches, historic monuments and forts, Mediterranean climes and lush gardens make the beach city a tourist mecca.

Season 5 of the annual Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) kicked off in Chile’s famed beach city, Viña del Mar, on Wednesday.
The event marks the third consecutive year that the Viña del Mar Enjoy Casino & Resort has hosted the LAPT, and the venue is keen to make it a tradition.
“The Latin American Poker Tour will once again take place at Enjoy Viña del Mar, an iconic city which offers both locals and tourists a unique experience in a beautiful seaside setting,” said Carolina Elchiver, Enjoy’s corporate marketing manager.
“We are very proud to bring a high-caliber tournament with worldwide recognition back to Chile, providing a significant push to the development of tourism within the region and we can’t think of a better way to kick off Season 5 of the LAPT,” she said.
Last year, the Main Event at Viña hosted 621 competitors – setting a new record for the largest in LAPT history. For 2012, Enjoy lowered the buy-in to US$1,000 entry and US$100 dollar blinds, and increased the capacity of the venue.
“For this third visit to Chile, the capacity for the Main Event has been increased to allow up to 1,000 players, so we can cater for the entire Latin American and international poker community,” Elchiver said. “In addition, the seven side events will also have an increased capacity.”
Otherwise known as the “Garden City,” the long, white sand beaches of Viña del Mar attract thousands of international tourists every year, and the city is also a favorite escape for locals, as it is situated only a few hours from the capital of Santiago.
Viña del Mar is also renowned for its gourmet seafood dining, nightlife and proximity to the edgy, artsy port of Valparaíso.
