Chile, the perfect place for glamping

Unique luxury travel site GlampingHub becomes break-out star of this year’s StartUp Chile entrepreneurial program.

“Glamping”, or glamorous camping, is the latest buzzword in the world of luxury travel. Combining remote, exotic destinations with top quality service and accommodations, it really is a whole new kind of travel experience.

Chile, with its many diverse landscapes and remote idyllic getaways, is naturally a great place to turn to if you are looking to build a glamping business, but that is not the main reason GlampingHub CEO David Troya moved to Santiago.

Troya came to Chile from the United States after his fledgling company gained a coveted spot in this year’s Start-Up Chile program. The prestigious start-up incubator started in 2010 as an accelerator for entrepreneurs looking to take their ideas global, giving big thinkers from around the world the chance to start their business in Chile.

Each Start-up Chile project is awarded US$40,000 and the opportunity to work alongside experts and other like-minded participants from around the world in training sessions, networking events and investor meetings.

Troya attributes much of his company’s success to his experience with Startup Chile.

“Since day one of the Start-Up Chile program, consumer interest in Glamping Hub has grown 25 percent each month. It is a huge success, not just for us, but for the program as well,” Troya said to press.

When he launched his travel site in 2012, was receiving about 13,000 hits a month, today it is over 70,000. Likewise, the company’s partner destinations have doubled from 300 to 600.  It now offers unique glamping sites in 57 countries across five continents, including eight in Chile.

While Troya compliments the work and success of Start-up Chile, the program has shown the feeling is mutual, naming “Start-up with the most progress” after its presentation on Demo Day in June.
