The 2015 World Travel Awards ceremony took place last Sunday in the capital of Colombia, an annual international award that seeks to recognize the best touristic destination through votes collected around the world. By receiving this distinction, winners gain a prestigious position, establishing as points of reference for the global industry.

The winners selection process was made through online voting from a list drawn up by experts. During the voting period, candidates developed different communication strategies and campaigns to position themselves among the leaders; in the case of our country, the campaign was made by Imagen de Chile through various digital platforms.

The award for Leading Adventure Tourism Destination given to Chile is the first one the country has received in the 22 years of history of this event. Regarding this recognition, the Deputy Secretary of Tourism, Javiera Montes, stated that “this prize is a recognition to the efforts we have done as a Government to promote our tourism not only on a national level but also internationally”.

Meanwhile, Andrea Wolleter, Turismo Chile’s General Manager, said that “both this recognition, as well as hosting the recent Adventure Tourism World Summit, makes us very proud since they are, in part, the result of Chile’s international promotion as a reliable destination in international markets”.

In this category, Chile competed with other important tourism leaders such as Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Uruguay. The designated Chilean Ambassador in Colombia, Ricardo Rojas, received the award on behalf of our country.
