Chilean firms climb ranking of leading companies

On average Chilean firms climbed 177 spots in a ranking of the 2,000 largest companies in the world.

Chile emerged from the economic crisis stronger. This is revealed in the latest Forbes magazine ranking of private companies, where the performance of Chilean firms stands out, as they climbed an average of 177 spots. The list includes the 2,000 largest companies in the world.

AntarChileFalabellaCencosud,SoquimichBciCMPCLAN and Banco de Chile are the eight Chilean companies that most improved their standings in the survey, which ranks companies according to their sales, profits, assets, and stock market value in 2009.

AntarChile leads Chilean companies. The holding company related to the Angelini family, which owns 61% of the Compañía de Petróleos de Chile (Copec), climbed 177 spots to rank 754th on the list, thanks in great part to the 80% increase in its US dollar stock capitalization, which boosted its performance significantly.

For its part, the Chilean retail company Falabella, which owns stores in Argentina, Peru and Colombia, climbed 205 spots to rank 834th on the list, thus making it Chile’s second-largest company. It is followed by the Cencosud holding company, which climbed 137 positions in the ranking compared to the year before. Both companies improved in all categories, though especially in the area of the performance of their shares in the market.

Further back comes Soquimich, an important actor in the agricultural supplies market, which ranked 1,351st after climbing an impressive 377 places, buoyed by a 16.1% growth in sales and a 60% increase in the value of its assets.

Por su parte Falabella, una empresa chilena de retail con tiendas en Argentina, Perú y Colombia, escaló 205 ubicaciones para ocupar el lugar 834 de la lista, convirtiéndose en la segunda compañía más grande de Chile. Le sigue el holding Cencosud que mejora de 137 posiciones respecto al ranking del año anterior. Ambas empresas suben en todas sus categorías, aunque con especial significación en el ámbito del desempeño de sus acciones en el mercado.

Más atras se ubica Soquimich, actor relevante en el mercado de los agro insumos, que aparece en el lugar 1.351, con un importante ascenso de 377 lugares, impulsado por el alza de un 16,1% en sus ventas y el aumento de 60% en el valor de sus activos.
