Chilean martial arts actor stars in new Roberto Rodriguez’s film

Marko Zaror plays the villain in the upcoming sequel to cult movie ‘Machete,’ joining a cast that includes Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson.

When cult film director Robert Rodriguez was penning the script for the upcoming sequel to his exploitation genre favorite, “Machete,” he was so eager to include Chilean martial arts actor Marko Zaror that he wrote a role just for him.
In fact, the Chilean’s character is not only written for him, but named after him – he plays a slick bad guy called Zaror, sidekick to the main villain, who is played by Mel Gibson.
«I’ve been a big fan of Marko’s for years, and I even created this role specifically for him. He is an incredible martial artist with physics defying speed and agility, and he has a great movie star presence. I’m sure we’ll be working together again soon,» said Rodriguez in a press release to announce the launch of the film, “Machete Kills.”
And the sentiment was mutual, with Zaror saying: «To get a chance to work with Robert Rodriguez was a dream of mine since I saw “El Mariachi”. He has made some of the coolest characters ever. I am honored to have had the experience to work with him and his exceptional team.»
The film’s plot revolves around the character Machete, who is contracted by the U.S. government in an effort to take out an arms dealer who is trying to launch a weapon into space.
It boasts a star-studded cast, including Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, and Jessica Alba.
And while the release of the movie is sure to launch Zaror’s career onto the world stage, he is already working with producing partner and manager, Derek Rundell, and writer/director Ernesto Díaz Espinoza on their upcoming film, “Violent Rider.”
The three have a string of groundbreaking Chilean movies under their belts, beginning with the first martial arts film ever made in South America “Kiltro” (2006), superhero and martial art romp “Mirageman” (2007), and exploitation style “Mandrill” (2009).
