Chilean representatives travel to Cannes 2010

A group of 37 Chileans will participate in the international film festival held every year on the French Riviera.

Latin American filmmaking will make a splash at the 63rd Cannes Festival in 2010, featuring movies from Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Brazil and Uruguay. 37 Chilean delegates will represent the brand «Cinema Chile», sponsored by the National Culture and Arts Council and other collaborating agencies.

The Chilean films selected for the festival are the documentary «Nostalgia de Luz» by Patricio Guzmán and the short film «Blokes» by Marialy Rivas.

Chilean representatives will be traveling this week in order to attend the launch of the event on the French Riviera and to compete with three Latin American films (from Argentina, Brazil and Cuba) for the Palme d’Or.

In keeping with this scenario, the French Embassy in Chile held a cocktail celebrating the departure of the Chilean delegation before they leave for the festival. The ceremony was attended by Maryse Bossière, French Ambassador in Chile, Bruno Bettati, President of the Cinema and Television Producers Association (APCT), Nicolás Bär, Undersecretary of Culture and Silvia Pellegrini, Dean of the Universidad Católica Communications Faculty.

The adventure film «Robin Hood» will kick off the festival. Chile will be in attendance at the awards ceremony for the fifth consecutive year, featuring the collaboration of agencies such as the Chilean State Development Corporation (CORFO), ProChile, CORFO Sectorial Brands, the Cinema and TV Producers Association (APCT), the National Culture and Arts Council, Universidad Católica de Chile’s Acción Audiovisual and the Cultural Affairs Directorate (DIRAC).
