This Tuesday in New York City, President Michelle Bachelet headed the inauguration of “Puro Chile”, the country’s first country brand store. Chile’s image will be promoted in the heart of New York City through offerings that will range from products and services (wines, gourmet products, tourism), professional talent (architects, lawyers and economists, etc.), business opportunities (events and seminars) and culture (exhibits and openings).
The event held in the SoHo district was attended by the Foreign Affairs Minister and President of Fundación Imagen de Chile, Mariano Fernández, as well as its Executive Director, Juan Gabriel Valdés.
President Bachelet did a short tour of the country brand store accompanied by Puro Chile partners, during which she conversed with businesspeople from the participant productive sectors.
A New Concept
The “Puro Chile” project is the brainchild of a group of partners – Mauricio Banchieri, economist Tulio Vera, American lawyer Walter Steimel, architect Eduardo San Martín, Santander Investment executive Isabel Martínez, and the President of the real estate firm Inmobiliaria La Castellana S.A., Guillermo Hernández – thinking of a way to take Chilean products to the United States, with the specific focus on New York City.
To jumpstart this new concept of a business space, a capital investment of US$1.2 million was made, raised through alliances with various companies and business associations.
The substantial support of Fundación Imagen de Chile will make it possible, among other things, to implement a stream of cultural and theme-driven activities in the business spaces that will showcase Chilean talent.
Other businesses who have joined the initiative are Wines of Chile, LAN, gourmet products, boutique hotels and the mixed public and private sector-run organization, Turismo Chile. These alliances with strategic partners have also materialized Puro Chile’s conversion into the U.S. headquarters of Wines of Chile, with its 53 vineyards and an office in the same store managed by Lori Tieszen, made possible thanks to the joint efforts of WoC and Corfo. The latter organization, through its program, Innova-Corfo Business Platforms for Innovation, financed a significant portion of this platform’s startup.
“Puro Chile”, in New York’s cosmopolitan SoHo district, located at 161 Grand Street, is a 300 square meter space which, besides marketing Chile’s products, will be a multipurpose events center for everything from product and tourism promotion to serving as a venue for company «road shows», theme weeks or seminars on Chile.
