The Chinese magazine Top Travel chose Chile as destination with greatest tourist potential of 2015. The monthly print publication is a tourism information source for high purchase power and high-end consumers. It is as well a reference source of high touristic value for the Asian region.
One of the reasons Chile was chosen as the winner of the award is the country’s reputation as an exotic destination. Furthermore, the fact that this country is better known in the Asian country’s economy was also factor in the final decision. China is the third Asian market that brings tourists to Chile, only behind Japan and South Korea. For this reason, it is expected that this recognition would have a positive impact on Chilean tourism market.
Undersecretary of Tourism, Javiera Montes, said to Sernatur website that “the Chinese market is very important to us and we are constantly observing its behaviour, since the number of trips by Asian tourists has increased worldwide in recent years. In this sense, we are currently carrying out a market, promotion, and facilitation intelligence work, and exploring the ways for improving the air connectivity in the future.”
Asian tourists have the highest spending per person of all visitors who come to Chile. They spend more than US $1,300 per traveller.
