Next year, over 100,000 revellers from Chile and all over the planet will descend on Santiago’s Parque O’Higgins and party to some of the biggest names in the music industry.
Lollapalooza Chile 2014 is scheduled for March 29 and 30, and while the lineup has not even been announced, 4,000 Early Bird tickets sold out in minutes at the beginning of the week, and a further 50,000 presale tickets were snapped up in the hours that followed.
Created in the early 90s by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza became established as one of the United States’ biggest rock, pop, and electronic music festivals when it moved to Chicago in 2005.
After five years of success in the Windy City, organizers made moves to take the festival abroad for the first time, and chose Santiago for the event’s international inauguration. In 2011, over 115,000 fans flocked to see The Killers, The National, Kanye West, Empire of the Sun, Fatboy Slim, and many others rock the stage, representing some of the best-known talent from and around the world.
The festival grew in prominence in the years that followed. 2012 pulled in music pedigree in the form of Foo Fighters, Bjork, Skrillex, and MGMT, and nearly 140,000 partygoers were entertained by the likes of Pearl Jam, The Black Keys, Dedmau5 and more during last year’s edition.
While the official lineup has not been announced, British electronic music legends Depeche Mode are believed to be in advanced contract talks and are expected to be one of the headliners in March.
In addition to the international acts, Chilean artists have pulled in some of the biggest crowds across the festival’s stages. Past editions have featured Los Tres, Gepe, Ana Tijoux, Los Bunkers, and Camila Moreno, and next year’s event will similarly offer the chance for visitors to rock out to the locally cultivated sounds that have reached across Latin America and beyond.
Tickets are up for grabs right now, with the two day event priced at US$ 150 (CLP 75,000). Two day tickets will rise above US$ 195 (CLP 100,000) when the bands are announced.
This is Chile will let you know as soon as the lineup is announced, and will give a full review of the Chilean talent on show next year.
