Foreign tourists’ entrance to Chile increases during 2009

Argentineans, Uruguayans and Peruvians were the most numerous among the1,4 million visitors.

The foreign visitor entrance to Chile showed an increase of 4% during the first half of 2009. According to the National Tourist Service (Sernatur) survey, 1.477.707 people visited the country.

Parallel to this, the money spent by foreign visitors, including the use of national transportation services, generated revenues estimated at $1.000.000.000 dollars.

Chile received 13% more South American visitors than this same time last year. Principally, with an increase of Argentineans (25%), Uruguayans (12,2%), Peruvians (7,7%), Ecuadorians (3,5%) and  Colombians (2%).

Sernatur highlighted the 3% increase of French visitors due to the organization of the last rally Dakar, a competition that will take place in Chile and Argentina again in 2010.

On the contrary, the tourist entrance from USA and Europe decreased by 17% and 10% respectively.
