Along the first part of the route, observe farming communities which are the traditional social structure of Coquimbo region, and the dryland valleys, sustained by a special mode of community landowning and use of the soil. Once past the open fields, enter the Fray Jorge Forest National Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1977.
