Everybody already knows that Chile is one of the best places in the world to ski. Many of the best skiers in different categories travel to the country to descend the white slopes of the Andes Mountains wdhen there is no snow in the northern hemisphere.
This year the Freeskiing World Tour has brought the 40 best freeski raiders to show a style that is characterized by its pirouettes and acrobatics. They include the only Latin American representative on the list: Cristóbal “Chopo” Diaz, South American Freeskiing champion in 2009.
“The altitude in the Andes Mountains means that snow in Chile is perfect for skiing and it makes for a great show,” affirms Diaz, who will participate in the tour’s stop in El Colorado, one of the country’s main ski centers.
For his part, the US snowboarder Aaron Robinson highlights the Andean landscapes as one of the major benefits to practicing snow sports in Chile, in addition to the possibility of practicing them among the native trees of the Nevados de Chillán center. “This is my second time in Chile and I am going to stay for two months to visit the different places that the country has to offer,” he stated.
The international competition will be held in El Colorado on 19-21 August, but its participants are already in Chile and have taken advantage of this to stage exhibitions in other winter sports centers like Valle Nevado.
