Motorola study finds Chileans to be biggest users of personal computers and most frequent users of the Internet in Latin America

The municipality of Santiago has been ranked 7th out of 150 cities in a study to determine Latin America’s most “Digitial City.”

The recently released study by Motorola, the US-based telecommunications company analyzed the infrastructure, services and networking in municipalities that participated. The use of information and communication technologies by the public, businesses and government agencies were also weighed in the rankings.

“While there is no uniform definition of what a Digital City is, for the purposes of this project, Digital City is considered one in which the public administration, citizens and businesses make intensive use of ICT in the exercise of rights, responsibilities and activities of everyday life,” according to the study Ranking Motorola de Ciudades Digitales America Latina 2009.

Meanwhile citizens of the municipality of Santiago were found to be the “most digital” in Latin America. People living there use personal computers and are online more than any of the other cities in the survey.
