On faraway and mysterious Easter Island, a leading environmental and cultural tourism resort is one of only three hotels in the world to receive a perfect score of 100 in Travel + Leisure’s 2012 Best Hotels list.
La Posada Mike Rapu of Chile’s Explora travel company, received the endorsement of the New York-based magazine’s readers, who for the last 16 years have evaluated the service provided by hotels, cruise lines, airlines, car-rental agencies, outfitters, cities and islands around the world.
“It is a true honor for a small business like Explora to once again lead international rankings and become one of the first choices of expert travelers in the whole world,” said Explora Chief Executive Jesús Parrilla.
The award was by no means the first for Parrilla’s company or its Easter Island Inn, which in last year’s list by the U.S. travel magazine came in at 13th place in the world.
“The prizes we have received in over the last year are the result of hard work,” Parrilla said, “of unremitting dedication and the commitment and passion that the Explora team gives day by day in their work, and in the consistency that has been maintained by the business over its entire 20-year history.”
Located 2,300 miles (3,700 km) from the Chilean coast, the 30-room hotel with a killer view of the Pacific Ocean was the first in Latin America to obtain a LEED certification of environmental leadership for its standards of design, construction and operation.
It offers a wide range of activities and excursion to its guests, modeling itself as the perfect base to explore the ancient, living culture of the island.
The two other resorts to receive perfect scores in the Travel + Leisure’s 2012 poll were in New Zealand and India. The poll will be published in June.
