Its particular beauty and unique characteristics have made the Atacama Desert a privileged witness to international events. While the open spaces in the northern part of the country were chosen for the James Bond film “Quantum of Solace” in 2008 and the Dakar rally crossed the dunes and dry lands that form the driest place on earth for the second year running this year.
The desert’s complex and attractive landscaped recently attracted sensual supermodels, who silently traveled to the region to hold a private photo shoot that can be admired in Sports Illustrated, the top-selling sports magazine in the world. But that is not all, since they will be published in the most awaited issue of the year: the swimsuit special called the “Swimsuit Edition.”
For the session, locations were chosen in San Pedro de Atacama and the El Tatio geysers, the highest in the world, thanks to the initiative of Turismo Chileand the Alto Atacama hotel. The latter lodged the 16 professionals who worked alongside the models, among photographers, assistants, makeup artists, hairdressers, magazine representatives, technicians and artistic directors.
Of the models who visited Chile, Irina Shayk, Daniella Sarahyba, Julie Henderson, Daniella Sharahyba and Brooklyn Decker, also known as US tennis player Andy Roddick’s partner, stood out.
The staging was undertaken by the sports magazine belonging to the communications giant Time Warner, a publication that has approximately 3 million subscribers and 23 million readers per week.
If you want more information on the attractions of the Atacama Desert and also want to look at the interesting artistic work by the photographer Raphael Mazzucco, you can visit the US publication’s website.
The choice of Chile as a location for films and advertisements has grown over recent times, opening up a new productive niche. Thus, scenes for the film “The Toast” (El Brindis), produced by Goliat Films and directed by Shai Agosin, were filmed in different territories and landscapes around the country, as was a documentary on the life of Ho Chi Min and scenes of Spy Kids 2, by the famous US director Robert Rodriguez, who filmed in Viña del Mar, Santiago and northern Chile.
