Chile is the world’s fifth-largest exporter, mainly thanks to the quality of this product in the country. This business is growing ever more strongly, which is why Wines of Chile, the institution that groups together Chilean export vineyards, projectspowerful expansion in the sector over the next 10 years.
The projection is such that exports of Chilean bottled wine are expected to total US$3 billion by 2020 and thus double their current level, whichtotals US$1.5 billion.
Along these lines, the institution already has a plan to achieve its goal. The idea consists in increasing exports from 45 million cases per year to 80 million cases after expanding the surface area with vineyards. Thus, 30,000 new hectares are to be planted over the next 10 years, at an investment of US$ 1 billion.
Likewise, Wines of Chile plans a marketing strategy that involves doubling its investment from US$ 7 million to US$ 14 million per year. In addition, the plan is for vineyards to increase their reinvestment from 7% of sales to 10%, so as to strengthen the image and improve the promotion of the country’s wines.
The representative of Chilean wines will open an office in Asia in 2011, so as to prioritize that continent more and significantly increase supplies of Chilean wine.
