The guest of honour of the Feria Internacional del Libro de Santiago 2014 version will be the “author”, therefore, the event will stress the activities related to the creators. Besides, this event promises the great ammount of 150 guest writers: fifty international writers and more than a hundred Chilean ones. However, attention will not only be drawn to important writers, but also emergent and popular authors. This is what inspired the slogan “Santaigo is full of writers.»

What’s new for the younger audience

Furthermore, the section “Side B” will debut; a place specially dedicated to unconventional literature that aims to the youth and where novel soundtracks will be played and poetry slams (rhyme duels) will take place with different duets like eo2 (Makiza) and Jimmy Fernández (La Pozze Latina). Music will be played by Electrodomésticos, Dënver y Perrosky + Redolés.

The Chilean poet Nicanor Parra‘s 100th year celebration couldn’t be left out of this event, which will begin with a tribute to be held in his honour during the opening speech. This speech was written by Chilean writer Lina Meruane. There will also be a performance that stages an imaginary conversation between Nicanor Parra and Roberto Bolaño; this was taken from a script based on some extracts from their works. In addition, the photograhpic exhibition “Anti professor: 60 years of poems and anti poems of Nicanor Parra” will show his professor years at Universidad de Chile.

The FILSA schedule also features tributes to Gabriela Mistral, Octavio Paz, Gabriel García Márquez, and Roberto Fontanarrosa, among others.
