A study of the 12 largest cities in Chile determined that Viña del Mar, located 125 kilometers from Santiago on the coast, is the best city in the country. The survey, entitled “Positioning of the Cities of Chile” was conducted by consultancy firm Visión Humana among 1,500 people from 15 to 80 years old.
According to the newspaper La Tercera, four factors were taken into consideration for the decision: best place to live, work, study and visit. The final ranking was prepared with the answers of those who gave each city in these areas a grade of 6 or 7.
The Director of Visión Humana, the psychologist Patricio Polizzi, explained that the positioning of Viña del Mar is based on the combination of emotional and functional elements. Among the former, he emphasized its history, access to entertainment and nightlife, access to the sea and beaches, as well as it residential quality, peacefulness and kindness. The latter encompassed its proximity to Santiago, tourism development, the availability of services and major corporations and universities, three of which in Viña del Mar are among the 10 best in the country, according to Qué Pasa magazine.
In the global listings, Viña del Mar (62% of preferences) was followed by Valparaiso (53%), La Serena (48%), Santiago (46%), Concepcion (45%), Valdivia (45%), Iquique (36%), Puerto Montt (35%), Antofagasta (34%) and Arica (32%).
